Gocart Engines
The size of the go cart engine does not necessarily determine how fast you will be able to drive it. Engines, for the most part, turn at the same RPM, so if you just plan on going relatively flat terrain and have a single seat cart, then you don’t need to be too concerned about getting a larger sized engine.
The horsepower allows for increased pulling and power in hill-climbing. It also helps to increase the power when you’re carry heavier loads and/or have a double seat go cart. Engine mounting plates can cost about $8-12 if bought new.
If your engine is really worn, stripping it down is most likely the cheapest option. However, it is time consuming and it does require some mechanical skill on your part. If you want to build the go cart yourself, but don’t know exactly what parts you’ll need, you can purchase a go cart kit, which usually includes everything you need except for the engine, clutch, and chain guard.
Some parts that are usually included are: the frame, steering hoop, engine mounting plate, spindle brackets, tires, tubes, wheels, brake assembly, pedals, steering wheel, seat, and live axle assembly. You can get these kits online for about $500-600. So even if you decide on purchasing a kit, you will need to budget in a gocart engine.
